Stack Turntable

The stack turntable is a turntable conveyor section that rotates a complete crate stack horizontally to the required direction. The stack runs onto the table rollers, the table turns, and the stack continues down the line in its new orientation without manual handling. The table rotates the stack about its vertical axis: it does not tilt the stack or turn it upside down. Pohjaranta designs and builds the stainless steel stack turntable at its own factory in Säkylä, Finland, as part of the customer's conveyor system.

What a conveyor turntable is used for The orientation of a crate stack matters at several points of a line. A stack turntable is typically needed when the stack has to face another way before a destacker, a washing line or palletizing handed crates must all face the same way so that they stack and destack correctly stacks should go to storage or onto a pallet in one uniform orientation. The principle is the same as on a pallet turntable, applied to crate stacks on the crate lines of food, bakery, beverage, meat and fish producers and logistics centres. Turning the stack mechanically removes a heavy, repetitive manual task from the line and improves work safety. How the stack turntable works The table top carries conveyor rollers. The crate stack runs onto the table from the line, the turning mechanism rotates the table horizontally, and the stack moves on to the next conveyor in its new orientation. The turning movement is controlled, so heavy or irregularly shaped stacks stay upright. Because the stack is only rotated and never tilted, the crates stay upright and the stack order is kept. If single crates have to be turned, for example for washing, a crate turning unit does that job, and bins are emptied with a bin turning device (bin tipper). A curve conveyor changes the direction of travel in a continuous flow.
